    Hello everyone,

Thank you for starting this interesting discussion. It is great to see different perspectives on how the Mediterranean Diet can contribute to health and wellbeing.

For me, prevention is the key to healthy ageing, and the Mediterranean Diet is undoubtedly one of the most powerful tools we have to achieve it. Beyond preventing chronic diseases, it helps maintain quality of life, wellbeing and independence over time.

At the same time, I believe that rather than focusing on prohibitions, we should work to preserve and promote this lifestyle, as it is recognised as one of the healthiest in the world. Encouraging the Mediterranean Diet means prioritising foods of plant origin while consuming foods of animal origin in moderation, valuing seasonal and local products, and preserving traditional culinary practices that are part of our cultural heritage.

However, the Mediterranean Diet is much more than food. It also includes regular physical activity, adequate rest and socialisation, all of which play a fundamental role in health and wellbeing. Sharing meals, spending time with family and friends, staying active and maintaining healthy daily routines are essential elements of this lifestyle.

In my opinion, ensuring that these habits and values endure and are passed on to future generations is one of the greatest challenges—and opportunities—we have.

    Blanca
